Problems with the 5th Gen Video 30 gig iPod (yes I've read the other posts)
« on: May 24, 2007, 10:19:12 PM »
Alright, I just read about rockbox tonight and tried installing it on my 5th Gen 30gig Video iPod. I read the manual several times and followed it step by step. Of course, since its so easy, I have to get the error...

Rockbox boot loader
Version: 1.1
IPOD version: OxFFFFFFFF
TOSHIBA MK3008GAL
Partition 1: 0x0B 28521 MB
Loading Rockbox...
Error!                                 (Classic: I always love that great error message)
Can't load rockbox.ipod:
File not found
Hold MENU... and so forth...

If you ask if I zipped the files to the right place I clicked extract all and went to browse locations, went to my comp., went to th (F:) drive (my iPod), and clicked on the iPod control folder and extracted it there. When I was done it even had the .rockbox folder... what exactly is going on: the only things that i can think of is my battery being low, or the fact that i went and got the latest archived build and not the current one (im not sure where the zip thing is for those and i figured the latest archived builds would be reliable) thats it and thanks...

They don't go in the ipod_control folder. They go in the root folder of the device.

This would be F:\

What is wrong with that?  It tells you what the error is on the very next line

Which is as Llorean says because you did not read the install instructions correctly and extracted rockbox.zip to the wrong place.
