if you're using cygwin you type

nano /etc/profile

this opens the profile file that holds the PATH info...
edit the PATH line...

Mine looked like this when done

PATH=/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin:/ops/sh/bin:/opt/m68k/bin:/opt/arm/bin:$PATH

yours should look similar...
