Pressing left on pause (1) starts playing and (2) shows wrong status in WPS
« on: May 22, 2007, 07:56:46 AM »
1. When pressing left on a paused song the current song starts playing from the beginning. Shouldn't the player only jump to the beginning of the current song but stay paused until I press play (at least I would prefer that behavior)?

2. The pause symbol in the WPS does not change from play to pause in the above case on my iPod 5.5G 80GB (although music starts playing). In flyspray there is a bug report (#6267) that this happens only with the simulator. Bur for me it happens on the real device too. Could anybody please post her/his experiences with other real devices that I can create a corresponding bug report.

Why should an extra button press be added? It adds no functionality that you can't do without it.

In my opinion it is more intuitive to retain the current play mode (pause/playing) when pressing left or right. When being in pause mode left should only jump to the beginning of the current track (or to the previous if pressed several times) and right should only jump to the next track(s). When being in play mode left/right should jump and the respective track should be played since I was already in play mode.

For example, with the present behavior I am not able to restart the current track exactly at a specific button press. Using other devices (like a CD player or a MD player) I usually play the track to control e.g. the analog recording level (if I want to record the track to another device), press pause if the level is ok and then press left to jump to the start of the track (which remains paused). Then I can exactly start playing on pressing play. If the track starts automatically after pressing left you never can be that exact.

But maybe I have only to get used to it....

More important is that at the moment the playing mode indicator shows the incorrect playing mode (still pause although the track is playing). Maybe that was irritating me more than the playing behavior itself?

Should I file a bug report for that?

Hmm - glad I read through the posts first -- was about to post re this same issue

First Gen Nano, 70630 build. Exactly the same issue - pause song, press left, song starts playing, wps still shows "pause" indication

Note: WPS being used is iCatcher

To clarify, this is definitely a bug.  I thought it was on Flyspray already, but I can't see it now...

Edit:  This should be fixed now: http://www.rockbox.org/tracker/task/7257. Seems ok here, although the simulator's still broken for a different reason.

This is why we expect you to try with the most recent official build before commenting on bugs (and it is clearly stated in the posting guidelines). If those bugs are already fixed in the meantime, then this will only take away time (if one has to check the status) a developer could spend working on something else...

Wasn't calling it a bug, wasn't reporting it as a bug .. was just noting that I saw the same behaviour as the first poster

To be pendantic -- it was an observation and as such I just stated under what conditions I observed the behaviour.

Can indeed cofirm that the latest release 070719 does not exhibit the previous observed behaviour.

I wil however, from now, endeavour to make sure I am "running" the latest build before making any further observations

If you're experiencing the same behaviour while using outdated software, what's the point in chipping in? "It might be fixed now, I really have no clue, but two weeks ago it wasn't!" doesn't really add anything productive.
