Since my iPod refuses to start (totally, no HD activity, nothing)  the battery is quite hard to drain..  it will prolly take a good couple of years..

you see my problem.  :-\

This is a bit scary. I have a similar problem, rockbox does not shut down properly most of the time, and leaves me with a dead-alike ipod. So far i was able to wake him, but after this i'm not so sure any more. Sometimes i had to connect it to the PC and then use select+start for about 6 seconds (even when it was 100% charged).

Anyway, i'm curious if this is a general problem with ipods, so i'm hoping to learn more about that in this topic. In the meantime i think i will remove rockbox.

Chronon:
I don't think it's a general problem or you'd see a lot more people in here.  I haven't had an iPod for a few months now, so I'm a bit out of the loop, but I never had this problem when I ran a Rockboxed 5G iPod).  Sorry to hear of your troubles!

I think I've experienced this too (or, at least, something very close). I shut it down as normal then when I next try to use my iPod the select button won't start it up. I need to hold menu+select to get it running again. It doesn't happen every time, but quite often. I also notice that the battery is lower than I'd expect it to be when it reboots, like it was still running after I 'shut it down'.

Chronon:
Come to think of it, when I first installed Rockbox on my new Gigabeat it was doing something similar.  It would say it was shutting down, the screen would go dark, but it would not turn back on again and it became apparent that it had hung during the shut down process.  Luckily the Gigabeat has an external battery switch to allow a hard reset.  Maybe something similar is happening for you guys.  Luckily, in my case the offending code was tracked down rather quickly and fixed.
