Well about 7 months ago my rockboxed 60GB Video iPod died. Friday I ordered a brand new 80GB iPod. Well, thanks to the Dev Conention, I hear that 80GB now work with Rockbox. So, what exacty is the deal with the 80GB iPods? Is there a build I could use when I get my iPod?

It's very nearly done, but currently unless you know how to patch a build yourself, you'll be in the dark I'd say. But it's been working for those testing it, so fingers crossed there'll be something for not-so-technical folks to try soon! (If I had more time I'd try and work out how to apply the patch myself...)

Can I patch a build in linux?
ryran:
You can certainly patch the source in linux, and then build it.

GodEater:
Essentially, if you're unable to work out how to do the patching process yourself then you're not the right sort of person to be testing this.
Whilst it's unlikely, it's *possible* that using this patch might screw up the file system on your iPod, and we want people with enough technical smarts to :
a) Not be terrified of this possibilty.
b) Notice it happen if it manifests itself in a subtle way. (For example, with the very early version of this patch, when using dircache, occasional entries in the file tree were duplicated in the rockbox UI - subtle enough that some people might not have noticed very early).
What we REALLY want, is people who own the 5G 30GB and 60GB iPods, and people who own the 5.5G 30GB iPod to test this patch and make sure it still works okay on *their* DAPS. We already know it works fine on the 80GB.
