Can't seem to get rock box and apple to live together on my ipod 5g
betamaxman:
Every time I restored my ipod i would copy thr.rockbox folder that I saved on another drive to my ipod's drive where the ipod control folder is so as to save settings etc. Can't see how but could this be what is amiss, as rockbox itself works fine?
When people speak of the root of the drive are they speaking of the 55 gb partition of my 60 gb video or the small partition? Can't see how it would be anything different than the main partition that shows up in my computer.

betamaxman, you're right the 'root' of your iPod is referring to the drive that shows up on your PC. Rockbox shouldn't do anything to the firmware partition ( the small partition as you put it). As to a solution to your problem, I can't say anything but the same, restore, reinstall rockbox, reload your music. Maybe doing everything from scratch, completely fresh might help. Sorry to see you're having so many troubles (must be wasting hours) and Good luck ;)

Thanks evilg123, if I am anything it is tenacious. I have come to the conclusion that no matter what happens regarding rockbox the ipod hard ware is safe from harm and the apple firmware can always be restored. So I will keep trying, I have come to like rockbox to much to simply give up. If I do not ever succeed at running them both it is apple I will blame if indeed I blame anything other than my self. If it werent for the ipod accessories (my dlo delux dock) I would simply forget itunes and apple and run rockbox and never look back. My other love on my ipod is podcasts and they are easily converted to watch on rockbox, gotta have my dltv. Thanks again. 8-)

Got it working again, at least for the time being. It has to keep jiving with itunes/apple though for me. Worse case I might have to buy a new 80 gb for apple os use and keep my 60 just for rockbox. Hmm wounder if I can talk the wife into that, naw probably not. :D
Update, didn't last. Booting between apple and rockbox was fine. The rub is itunes. I get a "disc can't be read" error as soon as I try to sync with itunes. It must be a database mode from rockbox problem. It definatly seems an itunes not wanting to play with rockbox thing. Dam proprietary crap.

Odd for some reason itunes now works and syncs just fine. don't know why but some happy it does. 8-)
