Possible for file browser to default to folder other than root?
madsic:
I suspect this is a request rather than a question as I'm pretty sure that it's not covered in the settings menu.
When I start the player and enter the file view (I don't use the database thingy - just the regular folder-based view), the browser starts at root. Since I've got all my files in a folder called media, I would like it to default to that instead - in fact even when I've navigated to some specific /media/music/ subfolder to select a file I would prefer to always start at /media rather than the default behaviour of 'picking up from where I left off'.
Would it be possible to add some customization settings to this effect?
JdGordon:
both would be possible, but, neither are likely to be done.
madsic:
alas... may I ask why?
JdGordon:
settings bloat.
Llorean:
Rockbox is has near 200 settings already (I think someone mentioned 180). Most of these are relating to actual features, things a user can't do fairly easily (such as say, crossfeed or replaygain, features that can't be done by hand).
The more "features" the harder the code is to work with, and the more confusing the menus become for new users, as well as the larger the binary size. For something like this, many developers will think a feature request should be rejected (were one even filed) because it's a fairly simple matter for the user to navigate to the appropriate folder on their own, and having the code assist this is simply a waste of resources better used for something the user can't do themselves.
