gigabeat remote

has anyone ever taken apart the wired remote that comes with the gigabeat f series?  I have an idea for an rf wireless remote and need to know how the wired remote signals the player. if its a simple matter of crossing the wires, and what crosses signal which functions?  
idea is rf transmitter and receiver from micro rc car + mini relays + rewired to 3.5 mm 4 segment jack = wireless remote.
