Ipod Nano: CPU Frequency, battery power, backlight, USB filetransfer.
« on: May 17, 2007, 06:06:08 AM »
1) I tested playback time on different CPU freq:
75Mhz - ~~ 5 hours
30Mhz - ~~ 10 hours.
24Mhz - cannot play
But original firmware can play 14 hours. Can developers improvement function to change frequency by 1Mhz? Will mp3-flac players work at 25,26,27,28,29 Mhz?

2) about backlight. Can developers improvement function change bright of light? Its need to reduce battery usage.

3) USB filetransfer. When loaded original firmware - files transfering 5 times faster than low-level filetransfer. Can developers improvement function On-Rockbox USB support (for more speed filetransfer) without rebooting to low-leve_mode?

making your text bold wont make anything happen faster...

1) iirc the cpu can only be set to certain speeds... 24,30 ad 75... so no.
2) if it was a trivial task dont you think it would have happened by now?
3) see 2

Using PMs to annoy devs about bugs/patches is not a good way to have the issue looked at.

4) about coffee. Can developers create plugin to make coffee with Ipod? Will coffee also be espresso?

Seriously Colombo, you're beginning to push my patience. You've insulted developers, and now you're showing a complete unwillingness to respect the forum guidelines.

The battery life issue, the USB issue and the backlight brightness issue have been discussed in many places on these forums. You need to search and research and think, and not post questions that have been asked before.

This is in all seriousness your final warning: Make an effort to get along with the community, because in all honesty we don't need disruptive influences around, they just make it harder for other people to find useful information here.

Please don't forget about the frequency scaling bug on the 4G; it's bad if rockbox crashes and my coffee gets ruined.

And more information:
mp3 cant play at 24 and 30!! It automatically change to 75Mhz and reduce playback time to 5 hours,
But FLAC work normal at 30Mhz.

BTW, original firmware play mp3 at 24Mhz -> 14 hours. Too bad for rockbox :(

How do you know what frequency the original firmware plays it at?

Hi, i'm not sure if this is true.
As far as i know the bad runtime is because there is some conponent in the player that draws more power than it should. And because the portalplayer chipset used in ipods is not very well documented it is hard to find the cause for the low runtime.

Theres no way the OF runs at 24MHz while decoding.

Only at 24Mhz ipod nano can work 14 hours. 75Mhz - 5 hours.

Maybe... assuming CPU frequency were the only variable in battery life.  It's not.
