Get movies to work with iPod 5.5g

(1/1)

Pileot:
again not sure if this is the best place to post this... Mods if theres a better place to put this please let me know

I have a 5.5g iPod, Rockbox Version r13287-070429

Im trying to get movies to work, i have been referred to http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/PluginMpegplayer and i still have some confusion, and instead of cluttering that thread i figured making a topic specific thread might be the best idea.

I have installed winFF, but am confused as to what settings to apply... or perhaps winFF is not the best option... i tried to set the size to 320 x 240, and 10 fps, but my audio still lagged severely.

Assistance would be greatly appreciated

Did you read the wiki page?  Specifically the following:

--- Quote ---NOTE: mpegplayer does all video and audio decoding using your device's main CPU. It does not use any special video decoding hardware such as the Broadcom Video Processor found in the ipod Video. mpegplayer therefore performs very badly on such devices in comparison with the manufacturer's original firmware.

--- End quote ---

So for now im guessing that movies wont work that well unless im using the default software. Oh well thanks for pointing that out to me... Is there a place i can track the progress of the advancement of mpegplayer to use the video processor?

linuxstb:
No-one is currently working on using the ipod video's video processor, but I'm sure that if someone in the future has success it will be very well publicised.

The best place to monitor for major improvements to Rockbox is the MajorChanges wiki page:
