Don't you have to compile the whole OS together with the plugins?

It doesn't compile though; dunno why, all the necessary *.h files are included???

If I understand correctly what you mean: yes, but not the whole OS. You have to compile the right ATA_IOBASE value with it (so it must be compiled for the right target), and as this file(ata-target.h & co) comes in the /firmware/target/* folder, "the whole OS" has to be compiled.
