That's a good sign :)
It means there is some hexadecimal data returned, and Rockbox is trying to display this as normal text (meaning looking it up in the ASCII/Unicode table etc.)
This means that it doesn't crash Rockbox, which is good!

it still shows the same unreadable characters but it also showed a message "you HDD is unhealthy".
what now?is there a way to fix it?

I'm just testing, it isn't complete at all :)
Right now, I'm trying to understand the SMART reference etc. If I've figured out a lot of it, I'll update the plugin

BTW, "your HDD is unhealthy": this doesn't mean it is so; the plugin is incomplete so just ignore the message..
