Id3 Tag Info Messed up in Database.
(1/1)
headchange:
Hello ;D
I just installed RB on my 4g iPod photo 60GB. Everything works perfectly except that a LOT of the tag info is messed up. I have about 270+ artists and about 8200+ songs and only about 20% of these artists show up in the artist view correctly. The rest of the music is in an directory, randomly listed by artist, album title, or track name. You can also select and album and there may be tracks missing on albums or even albums that just show 1 track. The alphabetical view is a little bit more organized but still has the same problems as the rest of the views.
It's almost as if the tag info is messed up but everything shows up fine in iTunes and Anapod explorer. Is there a setting I'm missing or something.
Any suggestions and thanks in advance.

As I know iTunes don't stores the informations into id3 tags it's just storing them in the iTunesdb. Also it renames the files on the iPods very nasty like "FSJR". So if you use the rockbox database and it can't read a tag it tryes to show you that informations from the filename. That means you have to retag your files properly.
some tagging programs

hi - most of my 5K files (30GB iPod video) are M4A format. The only program I have that claims to do playlist by genre is Winamp smart playlists, so I have been using that to (re)tag much of my collection one file at a time (grrr) I previously used mediamonkey and another program whose name i don't recall to tag, but then WA didn't recognize?
however, when I open RB database, I see tons of extra genres that do not correlate to ID3v2 OR v1 (i read somewhere that m4a only 'holds' v1). a lot of these are truncated versions of real genres. for example, I have a genre 'albums' - the tag cache db contains 'albums,' but also 'alb' (with one entry). what am i doing wrong? can't [our tags] just get along? [sniff]
thanks for any advice!
Todd

i had the same problem.
i used EphPod. under iPod Tools there was a option called "Copy iTunesdb to id3" or something like that. Worked perfectly.
