Clarification on displaying playlists created in another program
« on: May 15, 2007, 06:59:42 PM »
Do I understand correctly that the Rockbox "database display" cannot utilize playlists created and synced to the iPod via another program (i.e. playlists created in another application like iTunes or JR Media Center)?  I looked through the forums, and this seems to be the case, but my searches didn't turn up much recent information on this.

Thanks,

Larry

What do you mean by "database display"? Rockbox uses standard m3u playlists. You can create them with any program that supports m3u.

By "database display" I mean browsing the iPod by tags (i.e. "Genre, Artist, Album," etc.)  In the native Apple firmware, my playlists/smartlists created in my syncing program (JR Media Center) show up under a "Playlist" heading in the iPod's menu (which is the same behavior as you get when creating playlists in iTunes.)  With the Rockbox firmware, however, my playlists/smartlists don't seem to appear anywhere.  I don't want to create m3u lists -- I want my standard playlists that are already created in Media Center (and which update dynamically) to appear in the Rockbox menu the same way they do in the native firmware.  Is this possible, or does Rockbox only understand m3u lists?

Thanks,

Larry

lalittle, Rockbox does not support playlists (or smartlists) created by itunes. Since it seems that JR Media Centre is a program that can 'sync' the iPod using the itunes DB I'm assuming that the playlists it creates are the same as itunes (and therefore not supported by rockbox).

However, if you are into patching/ coding there is a patch in flyspray to make a plugin that can read itunes created playlists.

However, it is outdated so I suspect that it will need a resync and mostly likely a recode.
