New to iPod and need simple help...

Hello

I recently acquired an iPod Video 30GB and was suprized to find that it is able to play wav files and also that AppleLossless doesnt sound too bad. I was concerned about using the iPod for listening as I am an audio Eng. and do not like the way mp3's sound.  I was very dissapointed in the iPod's non abilities to let the user control the EQ and the pre amplification- however,  I was very happy to find a bunch of decent souls that created this thing called Rock Box which gave me the control I was craving!!  My first question may sound abit non informed but how does one go about just transfering your files into the iPod and not having to use Itunes?  Does anyone reccommend any certain software to use to rip CD's into files like AppleLossless and then transfer them??   Also,  my installation of RockBox seems to have gone ok but  RockBox was acting abit "Wonky" at first.
It was doing stuff like not playing the audio files after I did the steps to access the files I loaded in using Itunes, trying some of the wps's either didnt work -wouldnt load but asked me what I wanted to do with the wps info, or would be jumbled.  I am not clear on exactly what is ment by the scrolling features...I assume that this means srolling lines of text that are too long for the window, but I would hope that there where controls for helping out the "scrolling" wheel for selecting stuff as that seems abit slow
and jumpy....could this just be the build?   The build I used was from around 5pm central time today the 14th of May.   Next is to try some different wps themes that I checked into on the RockBox page...I see many of them call for the Senab Build  I may have to try that one out...anybody???

Thanks and hope to hear from somebody!!

Any way you like. You can keep using Itunes, you can use an Itunes alternative or you can simply drag-n-drop the files to the player.

not playing in what sense? Did you get an error? What files did you try to play -- was it encrypted (DRMed) music?

The wps parser recently changed, and it is now more strict upon parsing. Possibly you have an outdated theme which breaks.

That is an unofficial build and not supported here. Afaik senab's build also hasn't updated for quite a while. I wouldn't suggest using an unofficial build unless you really want some of the additional features it offers. Most unofficial builds primarily have eye-candy patches added which is also the reason why some themes require a patched build.

As far as not playing it would show the wps page and all the pertinant info but it just wouldnt play. All the files are ripped from my cd's using iTunes into the AppleLossless format.  The themes Itried at that time where only the ones included with the rock box build that I downloaded from this rockbox site. I did not get any errors.   For drag and drop do you drag and drop the files into the E root for simplicity or????   The main resons I would want to try the Senab build is for the album artwork wps displays -anybody have any suggestions for a solid wps that displays album artwork?  Plus the patch for controlling the damn backlight intensity!! I am very surprized that no one has added this into rockbox much earlier as the backlight can get VERY bright especially at night- not to mention it sucks the battery like crazy...come to think of it since installing rockbox my battery seems to discharge at a very fast rate!!!  Anyone??   Also any suggestions for a place to get a new battery for decent price??   I can replace the battery no problem as I am very good with a soldering iron.

Â Thanks to everyone that has answered!!!
