loading music

i am brand new to the idea of rockbox.  i understand it is firmware on the mp3 player that replaces the original firmware.

i did scan thru the rockbox manual, but could not find an answer to a basic question i have.  currently i have been loading my ipod with itunes.  what program does one use, to load the ipod/mp3 player after the rockbox firmware is installed ?

i had been using mp3s in itunes.  but i have started saving my rips in wavpack, and i have been told that i can actually load my player with wavpack files if the player has rockbox firmware.

You can still use itunes if you want, but it is better to use plain old windows explorer (i.e. drag n drop). itunes gives your music a weird directory structure ( folders called F00 F01 etc. with files ADF.mp3 etc. )
using drag n drop will make it easier to figure out what music is on the device when it is connect to your PC. This method also lets you choose between filebrowser and Database, I personally prefer the filebrowser, that way I don't have to make sure all my tags for my 3000+ songs are correct.

You can also use a folder synchronization tool to sync your music folder on your PC to the music folder on you device. I used to use a program called syncback while I was using windoze. (I'm on linux now and use krusader if anyone wants to know).

After searching for an iTunes replacement for my mac (i tried about ten) i gave up an went back to iTunes.

I didn't want to use the iPod database though (the F04 folders etc.) and so i set my iTunes library to a folder on my iPod. This is not the best solution but it keeps the folders and tags organised (I'm a database not file browser user). i deleted my iPod_control folder and exported my library to the iPod as if it were an external drive.  Just waiting till a better music management comes out, which could be never.

This method obviously means i have to plug in my iPod to play music, but the amount of battery Rockbox uses, thats not a problem.

i don't understand what people have against just using the filesystem.
