Because the Cygwin method is the old method, and people wrote most of the documentation before the VMWare method even existed.

does doom work on the latest build with ipod 60/80gb? i keep getting data exception error when i start it

of course it does, but i dont know what causes a data exception error, so i cant help.
before you go out and post a forum, read the directions, manuals, and wikis and make sure you're doing everything right...
