What can I delete from my iPod?

Ok.

So I've been using rockbox for over a year now, and this is going to sound like a fucking joke of a question, but here goes anyway:

I recently got a virus on my iPod (From Tafe - where I go to school - of all places...), and in clearing it out, I've been wondering what files can I clear from the iPod? I would delete the lot but for some odd reason my USB 1.1 PC doesn't like rockbox so I am having to switch between rockbox and iPod FW everytime I plug in, and as much as it kills me to say, I don't want to fuck up the apple part of the iPod......

SO, what can I safely delete without borking my shit? I have about 4 in the root dir, like ._ipod_control, ._.VolumeIcon.icns, .VolumeIcon.icns and .DS_Store. Then there's the Ipod control hidden folder and .Trash-root.

Which of those can I safely fuck off without the proverbial fecal matter hitting some kind of primitive air conditioning device?

You have to switch to the Apple firmware because Rockbox on the ipod doesn't have a USB stack (yet).

You can't screw up the Apple USB mode, its not even on the hard disk.  

You can delete all of that stuff except the rockbox folder.  Obviously if you delete the apple stuff, you won't be able to boot into the Apple firmware (aside from the USB stuff which is actually seperate).

So. Lemme get this straight -
My rockbox on my 5g 60GB iPod is meant to not be all cosy with my computer - check, that's fine.
If I delete all of these:
._ipod_control
._.VolumeIcon.icns
.VolumeIcon.icns
.DS_Store
iPod_Control
.Trash-root

I will no longer be able to boot the apple firmware? And as such, no longer be able to connect to my iPod on my shitty Pre USB2.0 PC? Forgive my confusion and naivety, I'm not burdened by the powerful logic that you programmers all seem to have...

The point is this:

1) Rockbox doesn't have a USB mode. You're ALWAYS using the Apple firmware for USB. There's just two different Apple USB modes, and apparently your computer doesn't like one of them.

2) The Apple firmware is stored outside the partition. There are no files for it (unless something has changed when we weren't looking, which is rather unlikely). This means that any files you delete won't bother it at all, though it will re-create the iPod_Control folder at the first chance it gets.

I was merely concerned that the iPod OS would crash and burn and I wouldn't be able to connect. But it's all good now. Thanks for the help!
