Stuck - 60 gig video iPod
« on: May 13, 2007, 06:01:56 PM »
I'm really inexperienced with this kind of stuff, so I apologize in advance if I'm missing something that's glaringly obvious to everyone else.

I own a 60 gig video ipod and would like to play my .flac files, so here I am.

I followed the video ipod installation instructions to the best of my ability.  They were clear and concise, but somehow it seems I still managed to mess up.  I downloaded both firmware files (current build and fonts) and extracted them to my iPod (drive H - I browsed to make sure the folders were in the right location).  Then I ran the patcher and it seemed to work flawlessly.  After disconnecting, my iPod rebooted but wouldn't move past the black screen with the grey apple.  I waited a while, roughly 20 minutes, then restored my ipod to its factory settings with itunes.  I tried installing rockbox again, but it did the same thing.

Is it as simple as incompatibility or did I mess up in the installation?  Thanks for any help.

Sorry, I neglected to mention that I'm running Windows XP.

It would help a lot if you posted the output you got from ipodpatcher when you ran it...

Here's a screen cap of what the patcher says.

It moves stuff, it writes to a partition, and the last line says "Bootloader installed successfully."

What folders do you see in H:\ then?

In the iPod's main are:

In rockbox are:

and four files called rockbox.ipod, rockbox-info, tagnavi.config, and viewers.config

It seems odd to me that the bootloader would come up with disk drive 2 when the assigned drive letter is H:. I'm just thinking aloud, but does that strike anyone else as odd?

Do you have any other USB storage devices attached? Card readers and the like?

edit: Is your rockbox folder called "rockbox" or ".rockbox"?

I have an external drive that's usually plugged in and my friend brings his over on occasion, but nothing's plugged in now besides the ipod.  It's just called "rockbox", no period.

It needs to be .rockbox, that's what the folder is called in the zip file. Whatever you use to extract it may be renaming it for some reason.

Thanks.  I'm going to go punch myself in the face.

It's working great now.  Thanks for being so patient with me, folks.
