Playing the "original"ipod games way faster than Rockbox games.

Hi i've just got all the "original" ipod games on my 5.5g ipod video, and WOW they look amazing! SÃ¥ i was just wondering why the games (rockdoom, rockboy) in rockbox plays so bad, when there are so good graphics in example "ZUMA".
Someone wrote to me that it was because we couldn't use the Broadcom Chip in the Ipod? But isn't it possible to see how the Broadcom Chip is used decoding games in the Apple OS, and then maybe do it similiar in Rockbox ?

saratoga:
No one knows how to use the broadcom dsp chip, so nothing in rockbox can use it.

To be honest, Zuma hardly looks like a complex game and my guess is it's not taxing on the CPU.

Rockdoom, on the other hand, uses a 3D engine and it is quite CPU-intensive. Similarly, Rockboy is an emulator which is very CPU-intensive. The lack of knowledge about the video chip is definitely an issue along with the iPod having a slow CPU.

If you're looking for pretty games, try Jewels or Bubble or Brickmania. Remember, you can always provide new art for the games and try to get the graphics changed in SVN.

Peterdk:
Thanks a lot for those replies :)

But im still pretty dissapointed about the Ipod :/

Remember, Rockbox primary goal is playing music, not games. So while some plugins could get optimized further this is not an important issue. Feel free to submit optimization patches ;)
