iPod - speech lag when playing long playlists

Hello.

I've noticed that if I create a playlist that has a lot of tracks in it, by holding down select, then going to playlist, insert, the speech takes about 5-10 minutes before it works.  This is a problem because when i create a playlist as described above, the ipod does not go into the WPS, so I cannot move through tracks, adjust the volume etc.  The speech will suddenly come back about 5-10 mins later, allowing me to press Menu, then 'Now Playing'.  It's the only way I can do it as I can't see the screen.

Any suggestions on this, and why doesn't it automatically load the WPS for playlists?
