Gigabeat F40 - Black screens

When browsing themes and changing to "iCatcher" or "UniCatcher" I end up with black screens for everything but the wps screen, i.e., when I try to back up and load something new, it's all black.  So far my only recovery trick is to hook up to the computer, browse to the config file and change it to something that works for a theme.  Any idea why this is happening?   I have the latest bootloader (4-21) and build of 5-10 (which seems to work everything I need).  It happened on earlier builds, so do I have something wrong with my setup? Typically meaning, "me screwing up something simple?"

Perhaps the config is set to display black font on a black background. If in doubt, you can post one of the "bad" configs for others to examine.

The iCatcher and UniCatcher cfg files (theme) that come with rockbox explicitely set foreground and background color. It's been this way since mid february if I remember correctly.

So I'm not sure what's going on but as an idea: what settings do you have before loading them - maybe loaded a black or really dark backdrop (background picture) before with white foreground colour? That's the only thing I could imagine because the themes in svn don't clear the backdrop (yet).
