Pausing during playback? Error?
« on: May 10, 2007, 05:05:06 PM »
Hey guys I just installed rockbox on my 30gb ipod video.
Problem is that sometimes it PAUSES/(seems to!) on its own.
The mp3 files play FINE on the pc, and the mp3s do NOT CLIP (89db).
Its almost like someone is hitting pause button for a few seconds, and then play, even though they are NOT!

I am using custom eq settings....

Any ideas what could be causing it?

custom eq settings.

The CPU in the ipod can't keep up with Rockbox decoding MP3 and the EQ at the same time.  For the moment the only solution is to reduce the number of EQ bands you use.

I think dithering uses quite a bit of CPU too.

Ok thanks for the speedy reply.. I will try reducing the bass and treble setting in the sound settings and see if that helps, if it doesnt I will cut some bands... I have it set now on custom eq to:

80hz +6db
150hz +6db
6000hz +12db
12000hz +16db

I am using smokin buds earphones (closed in ear type)

I also wonder if its the battery getting low? I notice that when I change THEMES, the battery level is different depending on what theme I use...

Do I need to set the battery capacity MANUALLY in rockbox?

From the manual...

"Battery Capacity: This setting can be used to tell Rockbox what capacity (in mAh)
of battery is being used inside it. The default is unknown, which is the capacity
value for the standard batteries shipped with the player. Rockbox uses this value
to estimate remaining battery life for the statusbar and WPS. Changing this setting
has no effect what-so-ever on actual battery life. This setting only affects the
accuracy of the battery life estimation as shown on screen.
This value is fairly meaningless in the Ipod family at present, and work is ongoing
into finding a better way to determine battery life."

If I Recall Correctly, the Bass and Treble filters consume way less CPU than the EQ.  I would reverse your planned order and cut an EQ band first.

No.

That is simply because of the varied mappings used by different WPSs to translate percentage to a pretty battery icon.
The actual percentage isn't changing when you change themes, just the apparent "fullness" of the icon.

Pay no attention to that setting.  It effectively does nothing on the iPods for now.
Forget you ever saw it.   ;)
