iPod video not working :(
(1/1)
Stellar42:
I have had rockbox installed for a few months now, and it has worked very well. Today on my way home though, I had my iPod in regular iPod mode, and it froze up. So, I restarted it (still in iPod mode) it came on but I got the messed up hardware symbol (iPod with a x'ed out face and an exclamation point). I followed the instructions to restore it and nothing has worked. The first time the computer recognized that there was a problem and like the Apple website said, iTunes tried to repair it. And it was all going right but said there was an error. I tried again and now my computer won't recognize my iPod whatsover, (unless it is saying there is a malfunctioning device attached.)
I have followed these directions...

Nothing. I can still get it into diskmode... but that is about it. Any help would be quite appreciated. I can't afford another iPod. >.>

It sounds like it won't attach at all even in disk mode, correct? It sounds like a hardware problem. If you could mount the iPod then I would format the hard drive. But this might not be a HD problem. You might try entering the Diagnostic Mode and running some of the tests. .. That's all I can offer, sorry. You might ask for a quote on repair as well. It could be much cheaper than a new device.

It could be simply a broken cable -- maybe just try a different one?

That would be a nice outcome. I somewhat think there's another problem, though, since the problem first manifested without any USB connection (I'm assuming since it happened on the way home). But I agree that it's worth trying a different cable and a different computer to see if you can get it to restore with any of those.
