Mpeg Playing Issues

astro2:
do we have to create our own media files everytime when we want to watch media on rockbox everytime?

if so maybe its just easier to temporarily switch to normal ipod (if your using a ipod) and convert a mp4

Chronon:
Players usually only support a couple of video codecs.  Converting videos to an appropriate format is kind of part of the gig with any portable media player.  You have to do this for a PSP, an iPod or any other device that plays video.  It also makes sense to scale the video to the dimensions of your screen beforehand.  Transcoding into the right format for Rockbox is, in principle, no more involved than transcoding for any other platform.

However, if you have a video iPod (5g/5.5g) then it's advisable to watch video in the Apple firmware anyway since they are able to use the Broadcom chip and can manage higher video bitrates (and consequently higher framerates).  When I had a video iPod I basically used the Apple firmware for video and Rockbox for everything else.
