iRiver H140 new battery no better

I replaced the battery when my iRiver h140 started to drain battery rather quickly. Actually it was dead when I picked it up after 2 months. After recharging it died in very short time and did not turn on without reset.
I got a new battery from eBay. Replaced the old one and the result is the same as before. Very short play time. sometimes while charging unit get rather hot, but not always.
So, please share your experience with battery problems. Maybe this replaced battery was bad or maybe there is something wrong with other parts in the machine. It would be sad day to lose my h140 - it is a wonderful recorder with Rockbox firmware.

From what you described, there are 2 possibilities (in my opinion):
1. The battery charging circuits (or some other circuits) of your h140 are damaged
2. you were VERY unlucky and bought a "bad" replacement battery from ebay
