"Unkown" album/artist/title

(1/1)

major_works:
I have been happily installing new themes on my Sansa. By and large, I like a lot of the themes that coders have graciously made available. However, I do have one minor gripe.

Has anyone ever noticed how often the .wps files (at least for Sansa WPSs) carry the same typo(s) in the lines of code that denote conditional stand-ins for missing IP3 tag info? Specifically, it's the misspelling of the word "unknown" (see subject line).

Either a whole bunch of us have trouble with that word, or we're doing a whole lot of cutting and pasting and not a lot of spell checking and/or simply reading the text.

Like I said, it's minor... but it does bug me if it shows up on screen. I've already fixed the typo in all my copies of the .wps files.

Flid:
Yep... that would be sligtly annoying. Hadn't noticed it myself, but that's mainly 'cos I don't think there are many instances of "unknowns" in my tagged music. This is probably the same for a lot of the theme writers. You're also probably right in respect to "a whole lot of cutting and pasting".

D'ya fancy being REALLY helpful? If so... you could skim through all the WPS galleries and have a look out for typos, fix and re-load?

Then again... there was talk of a huge WPS gallery overhaul to seperate themes that do & don't require patches. Also to sift through and identify themes which don't adhere to the new WPS parser rules (ie. date display alterations... which i know my themes don't pass at the moment).

mschneider:
wait, i dont understand how "Unkown" is the wrong spelling?

Llorean:
Usually there's one more N in it, after the K?

Mschneider:

I get it, even if Llorean didn't. Very good! ;D

I get the occasional "unk(n)own" here and there, which is why it is that I noticed the error(s) in various themes. I don't know very much about coding (and maybe even less about IP3 tags), but thanks in part to the afore-mentioned Llorean, who was kind enough a few days ago to point me in the right direction, I now at least know enough to enable me to fix text problems and the WPS parser issues with time/date display. All my Sansa's themes now display time and date properly, and I even went so far as to slightly modify some to display it in ways that I find more amenable.

Flid, to your suggestion about being "REALLY helpful," I'll see what kind of time I can make once I get out from under some really heavy work-related stuff. I'd have to learn how to re-load them, but that doesn't seem too bad.

One question, though... how do WPS authors feel about someone altering their creations without their knowledge and/or say-so? Is that considered OK? Of course, I feel free to alter my local copies, but the ones on the download server?!?
