Mpeg player.
« on: May 05, 2007, 10:56:14 PM »
Is it possible (or will it ever be possible if it isnt already) to hook up an AV cable to the Rocbox Mpeg player and play it on a T.V.?

Well I believe this question only applies to the video ipods as they are the only ones with the hardware to support this through the original firmware.

I think all color ipods have a video line out through the dock connector - but don't think it'll ever be used.

Hum. So it has something to do with the hardware and not the programing? I guess me and my gigabeat are out of luck.

there's a cradle that's had some work done on it for hooking the gigabeat up to much more things such as a TV. it has to be homemade though by some rockbox devs so don't expect it to be cheap. http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/GigabeatCustomdock

What gave you the idea we could hook it up to a TV?

I don't think it needs to be expensive, but the problem is getting hold of a small number of connectors. We can order 1000 at a time for about $0.50 per connector from Foxconn, but that's a lot of connectors and a lot of money.

Maybe a TV input?
^ From Wiki.

The connector we need to get hold of is the QL11203-C638-7F from Foxconn. It's the same connector used for the Toshiba PDA E800. (Note that although the E800 data cable will fit the gigabeat dock connector it is wired differently and will damage a gigabeat without modification)
Also from Wiki.

First- are we talking about modifacations to the gigabeat, or the cable?
Second- Do we have any ideah how these mods will be done.

It would be much easier (and safer) to modify the cable to match the device.  You just need to attach wires to the appropriate connectors.  The specifics depend upon the type of connector under consideration.  Some can be soldered, some work best with a crimping tool.

So the connector will go into the dock, which will connect to the gigabeat. Correct?

I assume No work can be started on this until we have metioned connectors?

I would envision the dock to be more or less like a breakout box.

Mount an appropriately gendered dock connector to the docking station.  Wire all the connections that will be used by the docking station.  Internally, you break these out to attach to different bulkhead connectors on the docking station.

So there would be little or no modifacation to the actual gigabeat?

I assume No work can be started on this until we have metioned connectors?
