iriver H320: how to detect if the harddisc is faulty?
(1/1)
drx:
Hello, i wonder if the HD in my iriver is broken. Although i had the disk checked with Windows' built-in disk checker and no errors where found, the following problems keep coming up:
- some fonts have garbled letters
- bookmarking fails from time to time
- recording produces a directory full of unusable files from time to time
- i already had to re-copy the .rockbox directory to the player because the bootloader couldn't find the rockbox image
Does this look like a broken HD or are these known problems with the latest release? How can i check if the HD needs to be replaced?
I got the player second hand recently, so i do not know how it was before ...
Best greetings,
drx

it could be a messed up file system. Have you tried running chkdsk /f on the drive?
drx:
Thanks! I had the HD checked with chkdsk /f and indeed lots of errors were found. (I dosfsck'ed before on Linux and it wasn't showing them.) So i formatted the HD from Windows. But the same errors keep coming up. It looks like the harddisk is indeed broken.
Is there a handy tutorial online on how to exchange the HD?
Best greetings,
drx
