what happens to my Ipod nano 1st generation?

I unplugged my Ipod and then it showed me a blinking icon with a battery almost empty and then it shutted off,what happened?

it doesn't do anything,if I put to a wall charger

thanks for all,I recovered the Ipod,but I want to say that I mistaked in the subject,the Ipod is of my dad,but I do all the music transfer,deleting,maintenance,and apart of it I do all the repairings to the pc,I help my sisters with problems with the pc,thanks for the help,I was a little scared,about what happened,but now I recovered my dad's Ipod nano,thanks,the music coded at 56kbps hears like it were at 128kbps!!!,thanks for all,keep rockbox great.
