Using Play Button to Return to WPS from QuickMenu and Bookmark Submenu
« on: May 03, 2007, 07:20:14 PM »
Ive gotten very used to navigating around the Rockbox menu system now, on my 4G Ipod.  I have a suggestion that might make it easier to learn and more intuitive:

I would like to use the 'Play' button to return to the WPS from the Quick Menu (accessed from the WPS by Long Menu), as well as from the Bookmark submenu (accessed from the WPS by Long Select->WPS Context Menu-> Bookmarks).

In the Quick Menu, we currently use 'Play' to toggle the 'Show Files' option.  I suggest moving this to the 'Menu' button.  In the Bookmark submenu, it seems that 'Play' does not do anything currently.

Since we use the play button to get to the WPS screen from browsing the database or file sytem, I think it would make a lot of sense to make the above change.  I'm not sure how it would affect Rockbox on other mp3 players besides the ipods, I imagine the same is true for them too.  What do you think?

you should put this on our bug tracker flyspray. Feature Requests don't belong in the forums.
But please do a little search first if there isn't a task for it already.

This doesn't work.
The Play button is needed to change the "Show Files" setting. As the Ipod doesn't have much buttons there is no other option left.

It's counter-intuitive to use a different button for accessing and leaving the quick screen, but you can't access the Quick Menu using Play ...

No -- the h100 for example has more buttons, and the Play button isn't needed to change the settings in the quick menu, nor is it needed for accessing / leaving that menu.
