gigabeat sat files

I'm not sure if this goes here, but since it designated for toshiba....
I have installed rockbox before, but uninstalled b/c i didn't have time to mess around and learn it
I have time now and wanted to know if there is a way make rockbox read the files already on there, it is the f40, and is completly filled with 40gigis of music and some pics, i dont really have an external harddrive, and the laptop i use is not enough, but i can use my sisters cpu which has a ton of space. If I transfer my music via media player, only way for mp3s i know of, its gonna take days (1.1usb), is there a way rockbox can read the files in 2.0, whether it converts from sat to mp3 or not? Thanks alot.

I don't think anyone is going to implement the reading of the .sat encryption. Â You'll have to just go through the copy process. Â In case you need a step by step, there's one on the Gigabeat Port Page here:

Don't use WMP to transfer your files. I think if you just do a direct USB connection to the mini B port on the device that it attaches via USB 2.0. I seemed to get pretty snappy transfer times when I copied my music over.

If I recall correctly, you
must
use WMP if you want to remove the SAT encryption. And if you use WMP, you are stuck at USB 1.1 speed.

Okay. That makes sense. I never mucked around with WMP and I installed Rockbox immediately upon getting my Gigabeat so I have no .SAT files to muck around with either.

Let's clear something up a little. Â You don't have to actually use WMP to transfer your music back and remove the .sat encryption. Â You just have to be in the original firmware and set the Gigabeat to WMP mode with it docked. Â Then, as the wiki states, you just drag and drop them using Windows explorer. Â
I'm no EE or dev, but I vaguely remember someone saying the dock did the encryption and unencryption. Â I could be wrong though, so don't quote me please. Â Again, as everyone pretty much knows, using the dock you only get USB 1.1 speeds. Â It took only about 15 mins or so to transfer ~40GBs of music and photos.

If you hook up the gigabeat with the cable, it'll only hook up to gigabeat room even if you have WMP selected. You need the dock to transfer for WMP and then you can copy them as mp3's.

ok thanks alot guys, but now i came across another problem. Â I tried connected the gigabeat to my cpu, where it's never been connceted. Â I installed gigabeat room and it connects just fine with it but, when I try to connect wmp mode, which I have to, it does not show up in my computer. Â Thus there is no explorer for me to drag and copy, but it does show up on wmp, so i can add files to it with the program but not get them off. Â What can I do about that? Â This is my only option becuase its the only thing i have that has 40+ gigs of space to copy. Â Thanks alot
Also if it helps, the cpu runs on windows xp, as opposed to my laptop which is windows media edition
