That message is an error from Windows - ipodpatcher can't read from your ipod's disk, and that is the error message Windows is giving to ipodpatcher.
I've never seen anyone report that problem before, and the only things I can suggest are to try different USB ports and (if you can) cables, or try another computer, or try upgrading the Windows USB drivers. Maybe others can offer something more concrete.

it looks like it was an ipod HD problem. I tried to copy some files to the ipod and i got a "windows delayed write" error. I ran some diagnostics and got it working again. I installed the bootloaded successfully.
Thanks for your help.

I am also getting this error message. I have tried on two different computers.
What kind of diagnostic did you run?
Thanks,

I have now tried on another PC as well as on a mac with the same result.
Can the iPod/disk be damaged somehow? (It has been sitting idle for about a year and a half...)
When it says it is moving firmware, is it trying to move a file on the harddisk?
Thanks,
