Big Problem
deez:
I have an ipodvideo, a 30G 5th generation. I followed the instructions in the manual. I unzipped the rockbox zip file to my player's root directory. Then I used the ipodpatcher. It installed itself, and then quit, exactly as the manual says. I turned off my player and now all I got is the apple emblem. It won't come up on my computer, it won't do a damn thing. What's going on?

Sounds like the battery is dead.... try confirming this by plugging the iPod into its wallcharger, if you see the battery logo filling up in the middle of the screen, then you've confirmed your battery was dead.

if the about doesnt work try doing a reset by holding menu+select then pressing play+select right afterward to booting into disk mode and access with the computer.
remember its not bricked! you can always restore an ipod to its original state

Thanks for the replies. The battery is not dead.
When the hold switch is on, the rockbox bootloader comes on, then says it can't load because of a 'bad checksum'.
lights0ut:
Well deez, from what you're telling me about the checksum there must be something wrong with the apple_os.bin in the flash memory of the player. The one solution that is sure to work is using itunes to restore the iPod back to factory settings. I'm not sure but I think that when you ran ipodpatcher, there should have been a backup made of the apple_os.ipod and it should have been put in the same folder as ipodpatcher. If you happen to have the apple_os.ipod, place it in the root of your iPod and the bootloader should grab that one when it's told to start the apple os.
If you don't know, you can connect your iPod to the PC still, you just need to hold play and centre on boot when you see the apple logo (before the rockbox bootloader kicks in).
hope that helps.
