This is a very cute little pocket computer, where the hardware and software are completely copyleft.  Basic specs are: 366 mhz single core MIPS-based cpu, 320x240 color display, 32MB ram, 2GB flash built-in, microSDHC/SDIO slot, small qwerty keyboard, USB 2.0 device port, removable battery (yay), weight 4.4 ounces including battery.  Seems like a natural Rockbox target.  It ships with an OpenWRT-based Linux distro so could either be a RaaA host or Rockbox could replace the Linux kernel.

It looks cute, but this isn't a place to request ports.  Are you planning to start this port yourself?

I don't have one of the devices yet, but I'll probably get one at some point, and will consider attempting a port if/when that happens.  It will have the advantage of not needing any reverse engineering, because of the copyleft hardware and existing Linux kernel.

It does say at on the forum index page that the new ports section is "one thread per port idea".  Certainly I haven't requested that anyone else do a port.  I mostly wanted to bring the hardware to people's attention, since it seems like such an obvious match for rockbox.

Yes but threads about the work you did on a port.  If you don't have anything to report then you are premature in starting a thread.  The reason we do this is to discourage people from telling us how great it would be for us to port rockbox to the hardware they're interested in.

They have an entry for Rockbox on their site, looks like they want to get it ported to their device:

http://en.qi-hardware.com/wiki/Ben_NanoNote_Software_Status

From what little nosing around I did there (recovering from a heart attack) it looks like anyone working on a port will probably get the opposite of "the usual treatment" from other vendors.

If the price is right, I will probably get one, presuming the LCD is of high quality. I love the display on my Zune (no fading/solarization when changing viewing angle, excellent display from ALL angles), but I detest the totally locked-down API and the need to use the invasive, bloated, slow, PITA zune.exe to load content onto it.

That said, it would definitely be nice if someone with the right skillset did dig in to port Rockbox to this new device.  I wish it was me, but with my health what it is, it ain't me babe, no, no, no, it ain't me babe... ;)
