hey i just got back to doing stuff with my ipod and i cannot get rockbox to work. i downloaded the windows installer and installed to my ipod. rebooted it but nothing. any ideas? or am i just being an idiot

Do you mean you downloaded ipodpatcher, ran it, and selected the "i" for install option?  If so, did ipodpatcher give any error messages or did it say "succcesful" ?

What exactly is shown on your screen when you reboot your ipod?

Did you also download the rockbox.zip for your ipod and extract the contents to your ipod? The manual has step by step instructions.

ok i downloaded "rockbox-2.5-install" ran it. first time change it to install or whatever to the hard drive then put the ".rockbox" file and the "archos" file on the ipod, held the menu and select. it rebooted as normal. but i installed it to the ipod the second time after deleting the rockbox stuff
oh and its 5th gen 30g video

rockbox-2.5-install isn't for ipods.

Click on the "manual" link in the menu of the left-side of this website, then select the manual for your ipod, then follow the install instructions.

i downloaded that yesterday and looked at the stuff and i thought it was like all the codec type stuff

I wouldn't call you that, but you obviously failed reading the download page. It says clearly:

Note: Version 2.5 was only released for Archos devices. For other devices, download a current build.

(the manual has this information too -- please refer to it for installation instructions)
