IPOD 5G 60GB battery life / capacity
« on: April 21, 2007, 05:09:53 PM »
Hello,

I'm running rockbox without a problem on my IPOD 60GB.

The only thing is, that it "crashed" today, but it was only a switch of due to an empty battery.

but I didn't recieve any warning. the battery was telling me half full.

Is there something wrong with my capacity settings? How big is the capacity of the 60GB battery?

Thanks

regards

The battery capacity detection doesn't really work on ipods: it's mostly guessing. Dwyloc works on improving it for the nano, and will maybe (?) work on the 5/5.5G too. But ask him yourself.
In the wiki, there's a page about the runtime on different ipods.

The "battery capacity" setting has nothing to do with how long the iPod actually runs, there is no guessing involved (it simply isn't calibrated at all), and the setting cannot negatively affect performance.

soundavinci - Were you viewing the remaining percentage or a calculated estimated remaining time?
If the former...how old is your iPod battery?

I view it on the WPS...

I have a brand new (4 weeks old) IPOD.

I'm using the latest EvilG fusion build.

So I see a baterry life around 6 to 7h,

my problem is only, that the wps tells my something about 6h and a second later RB stops, shows a swimming LCD and I have a knick/knack on my headphones without warning me on low energy.

If this is normal, OK, RB brings so much advance for my, I love it...

You did a very good job...

The remaining time calculations on the ipods is not very accurate, though I am surprised it is that far off.  Modifying a WPS so that it displays battery percentage instead of battery time should be a pretty easy fix.

The percentage displayed should be quite good (by comparison at least.)

Thanks soap,

I changed the wps to % for baterry,

but whats about my concern that RB don't highlight a empty baterry,

or I'm easily to stupid to see it ??

You are correct on that front.
Rockbox stops playing when the Apple hardware stops responding ;)
Low battery shutdown on (at least) the iPods is not graceful.
