Help with gigabeat- wont start
« on: April 21, 2007, 06:02:06 AM »
I have a Gigabeat F20 with Rockbox

Today I installed a current build, and replaced the bootloader (which I thought I had to do as I thought the FS #6929 commit was a part of the build and it says the old bootloader wont work...) so I unplugged my gigabeat from the computer, and restarted my gigabeat.

When i turned it on, the 'gigabeat' loading screen appeared, and the progress bar went all the way, then the bootsplash screen appeared, and didnt go away. So my gigabeat is stuck on the bootsplash screen, and i cannot turn it off (unless i use the battery switch) and my computer does not recognise it, so i cannot change the bootloader, or install any new builds. It seems that my gigabeat is broken, and there is nothing i can do, i hope that by posting in this forum, someone will have had this problem before, and be able to help me.

I have tried waiting for several hours for it to load, and it doesnt.
I have tried pressing each and every button, and have checked that it is NOT in the hold position.
I have tried plugging it into the computer before turning it on.

I'm running out of ideas. Please help!

Turn off your gigabeat, and then turn it on and hold the menu button as it boots, this should get you into Recovery mode. If it doesn't, try again.

You should eventually get to recovery mode, which lets you hook up USB. You MUST use the cable directly, not the cradle.

It sounds like you either didn't properly replace the build, or the bootloader didn't properly get overwritten. Download the current build from the current build link, and the bootloader from download.rockbox.org and try again.

Thankyou so very much, once i got it into rescue mode i was able to replace the build with one from the 4/20/07 which works fine. I also go the new bootloader, but that doesnt seem to work with 21st's daily build...

Anyway, thanks so much, that was much more prompt than i thought it would be. I expected to get a reply in a few hours, let alone a few minutes. Cheers!

Current Build is NOT the same as Daily Build. You need the Current.
