ipod battery replacement question

i'm planning to replace my ipod video 30GB 5G battery this week and i notice that i-pods don't have literally an "off " button, my question is.. if i remove the battery will i loose all my files on my i-pod?

No, you won't  lose any files... At least I haven't when I changed my battery ;)

There's kits that you can get that gently 'pry' open the case, the front white part snaps into the metal backing. Using the proper tools, the two can be separated without any damage.
