Backlight enabled with shortcut
« on: April 20, 2007, 03:15:16 PM »
Hello everyone!

I'm referring to this topic and the problem mentioned there  that there are not enough buttons to set such a shortcut.

In the quick screen one can turn shuffle on/off, set the replay and the set the show files' options (all, supporte and so on).  I wondered whether you could insted of "the show files" options set a backllight options, eg. on could switch it on/off and it would lit for as long as the time set in the LCD settings.

The other way to improve the rockbox in terms of the backlight is to use as the shortcut the select button which is free in the quick screen.

What do you think about my remarks?

I know that my english language is quite poor, but I think you should get my point.

I'm using iPod 4g greyscale.

Rockbox supports different players and not all players have such many buttons. And why would you have Blacklight at the Quickmenu? You can enable "Blaclight on hold".

So? What has it to do with the option where holding Menu turns the backlight on or off in iTunes firmware?  ??? ???

Rockbox cant control iTunes ;)

I only liked to say that you can already use a button to use Blacklight manually. And I don't think there is a need of a new way of using.

You simply didn't get my point!

I don't want Rockbox to control iTunes.  :o

Please read once again the whole topic. :)  It's all about the shortcut - when you switch the backlight off in order to save the battery power and one would like to enable the backllight for a while :D e.g. when it's dark in the car or whatever...

The first sentence was yust a joke about an missing "like" and it's not "in iTunes" it's "with the Apple firmware"/OF. sorry

And I think I understood, but with "Settings -> General Settings -> Display -> LCD Settings -> Blacklight (On Hold Key)" set to "off" it keeps your display dark and saves battery while the keys are locked.

We simly don't understand each other. I mean something entirely else...

Is there anybody else who could make a comment on my idea?

Quick answer is to save two .cfg files, one with the command to set the backlight to always off, and the other to set the backlight to normal.  Place the .cfg files somewhere convient (root?) and you can (relatively) quickly switch between them.
Long answer is to become familiar with the code and change the quickmenu items.
