I updated mine a bit. Made the now playing bar smaller, added 8 volume degrees and made the progress bar a LOT cleaner. Tell me what you think about this one.

nice.
two things that need fixing:
1. the direction of the now playing bar's shadow.
2. it should say "Next Track" instead of "Next Song"

iriver and ipod updates are up, btw. updated to "Next Track" and 8 step volume slider.
edit: the graphics package is available at the wiki now.

Is it okay if I don't update it right now and update it with more fixes like 2 days later?

Well, look at this. We're practically done with all of the ports (except for the ipod mini and archos players). All we need to so is weed through the existing ports and update them to the final guidelines. So, Llorean (or any moderator in charge), do you think this theme can be committed by next week if all goes well?

Just another quick note on the font issue. It's important to choose not just a Unicode font, but I personally think East Asian language support is desirable, so the Unicode font needs to support CJK (Chinese, Japanese, Korean) characters.

As an example, even though DejaVu is a Unicode font family, it does not support CJK.

Extract from the language coverage file for DejaVu:

ja     Japanese                                      (0/6538)           (0/6538)           (0/6538)
ko     Korean                                        (0/2443)           (0/2443)           (0/2443)
zh-cn  Chinese (simplified)                       0% (2/6765)        0% (2/6765)        0% (2/6765)
zh-hk  Chinese Hong Kong Supplementary Character Set      (0/2213)           (0/2213)           (0/2213)
zh-mo  Chinese in Macau                              (0/13063)          (0/13063)          (0/13063)
zh-sg  Chinese in Singapore                       0% (2/6765)        0% (2/6765)        0% (2/6765)
zh-tw  Chinese (traditional)                         (0/13063)          (0/13063)          (0/13063)

Re: Font

Not too sure if this would make things easier or harder but here it is:  What if instead of finding/creating the perfect font that supports every language, we created several versions of the default theme with the only difference being the font.  That way there could be, for example, "Rockbox Default (Latin & Cyrillic)", "Rockbox Default (Korean, Chinese & Japanese)", etc., listed in the themes menu on first usage.  Clearly not ideal but maybe an option to look into.  The only requirement would be that all of the fonts used are available in the appropriate sizes and of equal height to facilitate modifying the original ones.  Thoughts?

I edited the wiki so on the To-Do lists there is a table. It has check marks or exclamation points.  I thought this would be less confusing as before, which was:
Code: [Select]
*fixed
 8 step volume slider.

Not too sure if this would make things easier or harder but here it is:  What if instead of finding/creating the perfect font that supports every language, we created several versions of the default theme with the only different being the font.

Maybe I am the only person doing this, but I listen to songs in Brazilian Portugese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Spanish ... as well as English.

I like the tags to reflect the native language of the music. I don't pretend to understand all the lyrics, but I am currently studying Japanese and I know a bit of German and Italian (mainly from listening to operas, but I have studied some Italian).

So having several versions of the theme probably won't work for me. I do wish there was a better font than Unifont though - I am getting sick and tired of it. But it seems the only one that can handle everything.

Maybe just a Unifont version of the theme, and a non-Unifont (English only?) version?

This is what they did with the "iCatcher" and "UniCatcher" themes. This is a good idea.

Here is the final release version of the Gigabeat port. I added the 8 vol icons, changed to the bigger ipod video icons, removed the rockbox logo, and made an extra Unifont version for those who needed the Unicode font. I think nothing else needs to be done with this port.  ;) Checkout the screen shots below:

sure is. We will need a bit of rearranging, though. Some information might need to be compromised on several targets. Remember: Unifont is HUGE!

maybe I can merge dejavu with some chinese fonts.. should be possible, I just don't know how ;) will have a look when I come home. I've also found some small flaws today.

on linux, when the needed character isn't there it will look in the next font... and so on. Is that possible in rb? I guess no... hmm

edit: hmm bdf is just textbased, shouldn't be that hard

could need cleaner icons... and it would probably look better with the icons nudged up a few pixels.
try this: http://www.naturalbornyoers.com/forumpics/gigabeaticons.zip
hope I made no mistakes this time..
