ZincAlloy:
but with a plug symbol for "on AC power" the battery itself would imply activity as well

That would be absolutely clear. "Plugged + battery fully charged" is a bit harder to represent with that clarity; for me it would be enough to display just that, "plugged" + "Full charge" in one icon, but that would be the plug inside a fully charged battery again (maybe it was just that the "lightning" icon would leave room for different interpretations)

Llorean:
I think "Plug alone, no battery" for fully charged, and "Battery + Lightning" for charging means the least ambiguity, personally. If you have "Plug alone" and "Plug + battery" it's still slightly confusing. "Does the plug mean charging, and when it shows a full battery with it, it's done?" kinda thing.

Plugged alone wouldn't say anything explicit about the battery, so some of us wouldn't read it as "it is plugged and the battery is fully charged"

crzyboyster:
How about we get rid of the confusing icons altogether? Instead, we could write "CHG" for the icon that shows the battery as charging, "DNE" for the icon that has it plugged in and completed charging and just leave the full battery indicator alone?

We could use the same font used in the "Now Playing" titlebar.

(Note: The initials/names I gave were just quick examples that are debatable)
