I agree about consistency.  I've already modified a version of this for my own use, so tbh I'm not too bothered.  Let's present a united front of targets!

I am totally for this new gigabeat version. My biggest problem with the older version was the font. Sure, it was big, but for some reason it looked "pixelated" and not clean like the rest of the helvR font family. The helvR12 font is looking great, though!

Shall I start working towards committing it, then? What I need to do is make a cleaner version of the background. I'll need the original graphics for that.

Just one thing, I don't see why to put a banner with "now playing" as you come to this screen form the menu now playing.
This banner could be removed or the text change with the time perhaps

I actually love the "now playing" title bar, I always thought it looked very classy.

Since the theme has worked its way in and now been made the default (woo!) I thought I'd re-bring up a post I made a while ago... When updating the database on my player at startup, I see the rockbox splash displayed on a white background... but for a split second after updating is done, I see the rockbox splash on the cabbie gradient background... and it looks really good. The same goes for when I plug in the player to usb and the usb picture flashes over the gradient for a moment before restarting in charge mode. What I was wondering is, is there any interest in changing the splash image/usb mode pictures to use the gradient as a background? the easiest way to do it would be to simply alter those two pictures to take up the whole screen by adding the gradient to the image itself, but I know the larger image size may slow rockbox (maybe), so I was also curious if it's just possible to load the backdrop gradient in one's theme at boot, when the player starts up (which I don't think is possible, but would be pretty nifty, since then anyone's theme would integrate nicely with the boot image/usb picture). How possible is this, and does it actually interest anyone besides me?

Attached is a picture I gimp'd together for the boot image. I was going to make this a flyspray feature request, but it seemed like this might be more appropriate... I can make it a flyspray as well if people are actually interested/people think that would make more sense.

(also, sorry to double post, but this doesn't really feel like a double post)

That fits the reflective WPS style in the cabbie3 theme moreso than the cabbie2 theme, in my opinion.

EDIT: Essentially my point (and personal opinion) is that the simple change in backdrop of the two images in question unifies the theme all the more, and looks great without actually changing anything about the logo or the usb picture. That's all.

I just realized Cabbiev2 is the default theme as of today. Thanks again to everybody involved!

We can't actually load an image at that point during booting without drastically slowing down the boot. We could change the background color to a different solid color, but that's about it. That Rockbox image is actually compiled into the Rockbox binary, but a fullscreen image takes up a lot more space (not to mention in both of your mockups the version number would be much more difficult to read).

harder to read? wouldn't it be possible to display the version nr in white with the logo as a background?

with the start up speed issue we should probably use a black background with the old logo graphic. the blue looks horrible on my player. kind of off-white.

I agree that a default black with the normal logo would look very nice indeed. And yes, would it be possible to display the version number in white? Since that's the only way it would really work, I suppose... knowing your version is pretty darn important  :)

Could someone with a wikipedia account update this page to have cabbie as the theme:
