ONGOING DEFAULT THEME CONTEST!!!
crzyboyster:
Just remember, the goal is to make a good first impression and for rockbox to look like what it is: cool, fun, and functional. This theme does it all and if it doesn't float your boat, go ahead and install some alternate wps' (there's plenty of them available!)
JdGordon:
well in that case the status icons should definatly be at the top of the screen... you dont want to confuse new users...
crzyboyster:
I'm completely opposed to that. I don't mean to hurt anyone's feelings, but this would mean that all of the info would have to be bumped down and this theme would feel "unbalanced" on most ports. I can't really explain this, but it just doesn't seem to appeal to me.
And how would new users be confused by the location of the status icons? They have eyes and can reason that the icons at the bottom of the wps screen are supposed to be the status icons like in the menus...
And sorry, I didn't try and come off as mean or rude, I was just trying to argue my case out...
LinusN:
I think we will soon be able to theme the status bar, and then we can make it look the same in all screens, be it at the top or the bottom.
pixelma:
I just updated the Archos version and uploaded it to the wiki; didn't rename it but moved title up above artist and added the "above 0dB" volume icon (sorry don't have that much time this week). Still I'm not sure about the shared "next song info/playlist position line" - shouldn't the playlist position info be always visible and then maybe in the middle of the line with time info? But if so, what could the "next song info" line show in the large part from beginning of the song until the info is available? ---
About the status bar position: I think I prefer the WPS status bar at the bottom too (judged by the overall impression) but the other version has the advantage that the icons can't clash with the time.
People who think that GodEater's version looks too heavy - has someone tried with a weightier font? I guess part of the problem is the quite light font and it doesn't fit to the large icons, maybe it's become more obvious in the "statusbar at top" version. (I'd still prefer Nimbus fonts which are more bold - as you can tell, it seems important to me).
