ONGOING DEFAULT THEME CONTEST!!!
Cassandra:
boxes was actually created to achieve much the same goals as have been stated here. It's not currently available for all platforms, but it could be made to be so. It does currently look rubbish on a lot of the colour targets, but see the H3xx target for how it's *supposed* to look.

I never noticed this thread before, gotta start paying attention. I've always wanted to try my hand at WPS'n, expect something from me within 2 weeks or so. @Llorean, believe it or not your picture featuring the glorious album "Red Sails in the Sunset" by Midnight Oil is probably what made me actually read this thread. Me personally I'dve had it on Jimmy Sharman's Boxer for the screenshot though, but that's just me. I'll actually stay on topic next time, I promise ;)

what if you were to package all the themes for a certain model in the builds themselves? That way the user can pick any theme they want right off the bat? I'm not sure how feasible this is as I'm sure the developers have better things to do than keep track of themes for specific models, not to mention size issues like the amount of themes for the ipod, etc. but that's just an idea i'm throwing out there. it would work with players without many themes such as the gigabeat.
Llorean:
We're looking for a solution that can work for all players, and one that can keep working. For example, you mention the Gigabeats not seeming to have too many, but that won't last forever.
And a default still would need to be chosen, as we're honestly not happy with how Rockbox looks to new users, visually.
denny:
In the mean time, before any entries are completed a simple backdrop could be loaded on the colour targets. Its not a wps of course but would at least make rockbox a little more appealing to new users, and would be something very quick and easy to do.
I should have my entry finished by the end of next week since I get a bit of free time then.
