ZincAlloy:
actually I think the one on the gigabeat looks oversized.. but I have not gigabeat to check.

talos321:
This is what I'm talking about the photo on the rockbox wiki isn't what you see when you have a Gigabeat. I resized several themes to show what it looks like for the end user. When you look at the Wiki it shows a photo almost 3/4 the size of the device. Though they are a little clearer than compressed .jpg. I would say that the only two with easy to read text decent enough to read   are Black Escape and Ajax (which unfortunately are pretty barebone).

Actually these are a tad bigger than the actual screen

ZincAlloy:
that's still pretty large. helvr10 on my iriver is smaller.

edit: I just realized: not only do we not have the graphics for the h10 port, the wps can't even be downloaded at this point... looks like I have to build it from scratch.

If you can't watch it on the target's display you can't say anything about the size. Your monitor most probably has different pixel dimensions and I've seen an Ipod Video display which already has quite tiny pixels and I've heard that the Gigabeat's display is even a bit smaller. Have a look at the picture in the second post of this thread which shows differences between the targets. ;) To go further: imagine that the Nano's display (176x132 pixels wide) is physically smaller than the Ondio's display (112x64, rectangular pixels...) which you can see in above mentioned picture.

Speaking of which... I'll attach a gif which (a) show the Archos port on my Ondio and (b) makes the rectangular pixels very obvious (just as another proof that there can be great differences between the sim and the "real thing").

A few notes about the Archos port itself:

* I chose rockfont-8 because it has some more characters than the default. A 9 pixels tall font would probably work too but there aren't many. The only one acceptable in my eyes is nedore-9 but it doesn't even have cyrillic, greek, hebrew (yet) and in some case I already find it a bit too big myself though I use nedore-9 in my own theme.
* My intention was to make the graphics look a bit 3D-like too, even with black and white.
* I only added the next song info/playlist position line because the gap looked weird otherwise. The next song info is a bit special here because it is only available when the next song is already buffered which means only about 1 or 1.5 minutes before the start of the next track (depending on the bitrate of your mp3) on these devices. That's why I filled the line with the playlist position if the next track info is not available. There is a known problem with refreshing dynamic content on scrolling lines (FS #7006 ) so that I force the update as mentioned there with alternating sublines; I found that a time of 5 or 6 seconds works quite well without being obvious in most cases. But - I'm open to suggestions about this line.
* I can't test the battery "charging" and "powered" icons as well as the repeat-AB icons on my Ondio as those features are not available there but the Archos Recorders should have it.
* Some icons (for example "play") are part of the static background.bmp to reduce the number of bitmaps that needs to be loaded as each additional file increases loading time (hence boot time) - to be discussed.
* I'll post the zip with a "normal" screenshot to the wiki tomorrow... quite late here.
About the development in other ports:
I still think that the c200 version could use a font that's a bit smaller but not as small as crzyboyster's second version (nimbus-10 is quite nice) and the album art there could be a tad bit bigger. In another thread I mentioned I tried myself with 40x40 pictures and this is in my opinion the minimum. Maybe I can post a real photo of it too if someone's interested.

crzyboyster:
ZincAlloy: don't mourn yet! look at http://www.misticriver.net/forums/rockbox-h10-series/56970-default-theme-contest-cabbie-2-0-5-6gb-version.html
a little bit down on that page, there is a download for the h10 version available.
You can also message the poster about the psd source.
Good luck!

EDIT: very nice job, pixelma! You made an awesome port for such a tiny screened player! Also, we will probably need to go through all of the ports once and add unifont support for practically all of them and finx bugs that may have cropped up and also unify all of them.

Also, I'm pretty sure the nimbus-10 font is the same size as the helvR10 font that I'm using right now. Also, one of the requirements is to "have the same feel" for the theme across targets. Nimbus on one just doesn't fit the bill.

Other comments welcome!

EDIT 2: Wow, I sure do type "also" a lot in my replies, don't I?  ;D
