in my humble opinion readability is more important than uniformity

Hey folks, sorry for bailing on this project but I've got a lot going on right now and this is definitely not making the top 10.  Plus my hands hurt a lot, I think I'm destroying my carpal tunnels and need to take a break from the computer using when possible.  Have fun, I think I posted everything I worked on but if I forgot to upload anything let me know.

Chinchincherio,
Marc

ZincAlloy: you do realize that it's completely readable and the icons have the same size as in the nano and h10 ports? (atleast I think they do)

that's true. but I think if we can get away with large icons and fonts we should use them.

Obviously one down side of using a small font is that it makes support of some of the more complicated charactersets impossible/difficult (see lazka's comments earlier in this thread particularly about Japanese/Chinese/Korean).

However I think the answer hinges to some extent on whether or not the c200 OF supports those languages. If it doesn't, then nothing is lost by using a small font that also doesn't support them. On the other hand, if the c200 OF DOES support chinese/japanese/korean character sets, then this WPS loses functionality for those users.

Of course, we could make a unifont version with alternating sublines for track-album-artist  ;D
that would work quite nicely

anyways, here's how the new version is looking with smaller (namil-8) font and helvR10 font.
note that the icons on the menu are smooshed on the menu screen.
So, which font should I use?

crzyboyster: I prefer the second version (the one without the "Next" line).

I haven't got a c200, but I took a look at the User Manual online, and it appear the OF uses a display layout with only about 5 lines of info (top and bottom lines are used for icons/status, and the middle three for album/artist/track text), so going for the slightly larger font might make more people happy :)

Has anyone tried this on a real c200 to see what it actual looks like?

I have to agree, too, yapper, we can also make a unifont version quite easily with alternating sublines (only way I think). I will release it tomorrow.

We still have no idea how to use the standard wps's images for the unifont version, have we?

ZincAlloy: I think we're in over our heads

Anyways, I just posted the redone version of the c200 version.

http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/DefaultWPS#132_x_80_16_bit_colour_Sansa_c20

EDIT: next up is the e200 version...
This is kind of sad as noone wants to help finish this up....

:( And this smiley doesn't even convey my sadness...

I was rather busy over the weekend.
I might be able to do this one tonight.

Edit: done!

ZincAlloy: Why isn't the screen with album art for the e200 version filled up? Add in more info or bigger album art.

And thanks for helping me out!

All we have to do now is the iriver h10 version. That one seems like a mess...

because the album art was made for my iriver h340 (75x75). The album art for the e200 can be much bigger.
the h10 version needs some work indeed. and we don't have the original graphics for this one.
I'll do it tomorrow.

I agree with what Zinc Alloy said about readability. in the Gigabeat themes (not just this one) the text is way too small. Yes it is taller so everyone tries to fill the screen with tiny text and makes 90% of the themes unreadable (must alter them).

Hold on a second, talos321, you're talking about the font size here? The font size is usually well selected for each target and the maximum it can be.
