Here is the final release version of the Gigabeat port.
Sure it is the final version?  :)

The cabbie2.0.cfg file uses helvr12, but it only looks correct if you use helvr14. Also, the zip file contains helvr14.fnt, so I guess you intended to use helvr14 but forgot to change the cfg file.

The thread title should be changed to "DEFAULT FONT CONTEST!!!".  :)

Makes sense, I think we put the cart before the horse on this one... Should have seen it coming...

---
OR:

Keep on trucking with Helvetica, wrap up what's already been started and submit it to the default theme contest.  Given that the current default theme doesn't have a universal font either, what we've come up with is still a valid improvement, and who knows how long it might take to come up with a nice looking, flexible, uni-font?

Dang, I knew I always forget something.

Also, thanks for the new icons ZincAlloy. And I will check to make sure the icons are updated in the zip file.

Edit: Ok, I fixed everything that I know was wrong, but anyone could check behind me to make sure. I will be updating the wps gallery in a few minutes.

no prob. I'd recommend you to place them according to the included .wps file. I have repositioned them a bit to align them better and place them more harmonically between the last line of text and the edge of the screen.

I suspect if I continue posting, people will start calling me "Font Girl"  ;D

I have managed to find a font (already in BDF format!) that supports CJK:

http://openlab.jp/efont/unicode/

By the way, I just realised that to support CJK, you really need a font size at least as big as Unifont, otherwise the characters are so small some of them may end up coming up as a solid blob. Some of these characters are really dense and even on Unifont I sometimes need a magnifying glass to see all the tiny little strokes.

So on the targets with small displays, we may need to rethink what we can fit on the screen to support CJK properly.

I really wish Rockbox supported multiple fonts properly on the WPS (yes, I am aware of the patch - I was thinking of support in SVN). Then we can solve the problem by using an English font for everything apart from song title/artist.

My wps still does not show up correctly when you have the normal cabbie 2.0 on the gigabeat. The unifont theme works but the regular version does not.

Sorry about that, I just fixed it and put the new one on the gallery. It was some sort of formatting error.

So it has been decided that there will now be separate versions of the theme available with unicode and helvetica font? Also, what did you do with your version, did you just include it in the same zip? Is the plan to have both the unicode version and the helvetica version included in a default rockbox installation?

I will be updating the nano port soon, too.

I'm not sure, but I think it's the best solution we can have at the moment. The unifont version is using the same graphics as the standard version. The only additional files are the .cfg, .wps and .rwps, so the file size of the whole package has barely increased.

I also agree that having both versions in one zip is a good idea. Could this be added on all the To-Do lists?

I doubt making a useable unifont version will be possible for targets with small screens.

psycho_maniac, I think that this is the best way to go. Please add it to the to-do lists and end the discussion on the page with this outcome explained.
