ONGOING DEFAULT THEME CONTEST!!!
Christine Tham:
Just another quick note on the font issue. It's important to choose not just a Unicode font, but I personally think East Asian language support is desirable, so the Unicode font needs to support CJK (Chinese, Japanese, Korean) characters.
As an example, even though DejaVu is a Unicode font family, it does not support CJK.
Extract from the language coverage file for DejaVu:
ja Japanese (0/6538) (0/6538) (0/6538)
ko Korean (0/2443) (0/2443) (0/2443)
zh-cn Chinese (simplified) 0% (2/6765) 0% (2/6765) 0% (2/6765)
zh-hk Chinese Hong Kong Supplementary Character Set (0/2213) (0/2213) (0/2213)
zh-mo Chinese in Macau (0/13063) (0/13063) (0/13063)
zh-sg Chinese in Singapore 0% (2/6765) 0% (2/6765) 0% (2/6765)
zh-tw Chinese (traditional) (0/13063) (0/13063) (0/13063)

Re: Font
Not too sure if this would make things easier or harder but here it is: What if instead of finding/creating the perfect font that supports every language, we created several versions of the default theme with the only difference being the font. That way there could be, for example, "Rockbox Default (Latin & Cyrillic)", "Rockbox Default (Korean, Chinese & Japanese)", etc., listed in the themes menu on first usage. Clearly not ideal but maybe an option to look into. The only requirement would be that all of the fonts used are available in the appropriate sizes and of equal height to facilitate modifying the original ones. Thoughts?

I edited the wiki so on the To-Do lists there is a table. It has check marks or exclamation points. I thought this would be less confusing as before, which was:
--- Code: ---*fixed
8 step volume slider.
--- End code ---

Maybe I am the only person doing this, but I listen to songs in Brazilian Portugese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Spanish ... as well as English.
I like the tags to reflect the native language of the music. I don't pretend to understand all the lyrics, but I am currently studying Japanese and I know a bit of German and Italian (mainly from listening to operas, but I have studied some Italian).
So having several versions of the theme probably won't work for me. I do wish there was a better font than Unifont though - I am getting sick and tired of it. But it seems the only one that can handle everything.
Maybe just a Unifont version of the theme, and a non-Unifont (English only?) version?
