mpeg plugin wont load some files (nano)...

(1/2) > >>

sadffffff:
i have a problem playing some mpeg files on my ipod nano with rockbox. I convert them with the batch file for VLC on the mpeg plugin webpage, so the settings should be right.

for instance:

i can convert and watch season 2 episode 15 of american dad fine, but when i convert season2 episode 14, mpeg player never loads the file. I just get a black screen.

I cant pinpoint why certain files load and certain ones dont...

any clues on this?

Llorean:
Does the converted file play fine on your computer?

sadffffff:
good question, let me check...

wow, actually, it doesnt! all i get is audio.

now i suppose i should check and see if the mpeg plugin is also just playing audio (i was in class and didnt have any headphones at the time)...

and mpeg plugin also plays the audio, so its doing it's job correctly.

and now that i look at the files and compare the episode with video to the one without, the one thats only audio is 1/3rd the size... so this is VLC's doing.

vlc plays the file (the origonals) just fine and both are encoded the same... why would one file not transcode the video stream?

Llorean:
Are you 100% sure the originals are both at frame rates MPEG2 accepts? If one is 29.97 and the other is 29.9736 (or whatever the actual frame rate is supposed to be), one will encode audio-only and the other will work.

Try forcing the frame rate, or using the WinFF method on the wiki which is much better at picking the nearest good frame rate.

sadffffff:
wow, theyre ever so slightly different in frame rate:

for the episode that works:
Frame rate: 23.976023

for the one that doesnt:
Frame rate: 23.976024

I'll put a lil more effort into the transcoding process than draging into the batch file, and see what I come up with.
